The value of a great fruit depends – among other things – on the maintaining of its quality parameters, such as firmness, color, aroma and overall appearance. Verax Lab’s Ethylene Laboratory has a systematic program of ethylene measurements in air samples of fruit storage refrigerators, adapted per crop (kiwis, apples, pears). It gives you additional data about the quality status of stored fruits.

Monitor thoroughly the progress of ripening in your coldstore facilities with packages of ethylene, O2 and CO2 measurements in air samples.

Verax Lab offers you annual measurement programs (from December to June) that include sampling every two to three weeks, systematic measurement analysis and customer friendly reports.

The air samples can be taken either by you or a Verax Lab technician with a special pump in suitable bags. The samples' analysis is done with a special technique using a gas chromatographer.

THE RIPENING
OF PEARS
IN THE ORCHARD

Verax Lab was assigned by AgroFresh Solutions Inc. to apply the innovative technology of controlling the ripening of pears in the orchard. The technology was applied before and after harvest and specific quality parameters were evaluated, such as weight, color, brix, firmness, diameter, etc.

The evaluation of the data is very encouraging and as of now, our research department is adapting the measurements aiming at the upcoming commercial application of the specific technology both in pears and apples.

STORAGE EVALUATION
OF YELLOW KIWIS

Verax Labs, was assigned by Zespri Group Limited, to monitor the behavior of the yellow SUNGOLD kiwis from harvest to completion of their maintenance in the cooling chambers.

At specific, predetermined intervals, our technicians received fruit samples, which were evaluated in our laboratory for specific quality parameters. Simultaneously, air samples were collected from the chambers to control the ethylene concentration, and were later analyzed on a gas chromatograph in our laboratory.
